Ashes of Ariandel is the first of two DLC's that will be released for Dark Souls 3. The DLC takes place in a new area, and features new stories, bosses and NPCs, as well as weapons and armor pieces. There will also be new pyromancies, sorceries, and miracles. One of the new maps added to the game, Immortal Arena, is a PvP exclusive map. The competitive multiplayer mode will be receiving updates and new features.

The second DLC is currently planned for an early 2017 release. Ashes of Ariandel and the second DLC for Dark Souls 3 can be purchased together as a season pass bundle for $25. Ashes of Ariandel will be digital-only, and purchasable for Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and Windows PC.

The trailer showcases new enemies to fight and new environments to explore. An emphasis on snow can be seen in the trailer, and a boss whipping itself alone in the corner brings the trailer a creepy punishment vibe inline with the series' tone. A run-through of a few of the main game bosses appeared in trailer as well.

TechRaptor gave the game an 8/10, for its unique bosses and atmosphere, but ultimately felt a little too similar to past installments.

"Dark Souls III isn't revolutionary, but it's taken me on a ride I won't be forgetting anytime soon." says reviewer Perry Ruhland.
