In late November, Sony confirmed that Playstation 4 would indeed be receiving the ability to emulate Playstation 2 games in the future. Little was said past that fact, so we didn't know whether or not this would include the ability to play your already-owned Playstation 2 titles, but it did confirm that something was coming that will allow for Playstation 2 emulation to be done on the console.

But yesterday, this was all but confirmed when Sony prematurely released an announcement trailer that showed Dark Cloud running on a PS4 with emulation. This trailer, which was leaked on Twitter and then quickly removed, showed off gameplay footage of Dark Cloud on the PS4. The video was up-rendered to 1080p and included Trophies, as well as additional features such as Shareplay, Remote Play, Activity Feeds, and Second Screen support through the Playstation Vita and Playstation App. The video received 91 views before being removed, but not before a user managed to grab a screencap of the page. Note the bottom of the page:

"PS2 Classics and PS2-formatted discs are incompatible with the PS4 system."

With the Playstation Experience (PSX) taking place this weekend, it's likely this was meant to be an announcement at the event, meaning we'll get much more formal details in the coming days. With the information that other classics, such as Dark Cloud 2 and Ape Escape 2, are coming to the platform as well, we're sure to get a lot of new information from this event. Gamers have been asking for PS2 backwards compatibility for a long time, and if Sony can deliver what people are looking for, you're going to see people playing a lot of their favorite classics on their PS4 very soon.

What do you think? Are you excited for this announcement? Are you okay with having to be limited to games that are only made available via the PSN? Are you disappointed that unlike the Xbox Backwards Compatibility, you'll have to buy the game again if you already own it? Let us know in the comments below!
