We previously reported that Spike Chunsoft was going to bring it's murder mystery visual novel game to Steam this month, but there is now a date that you too can go into the school jail with the evil Monokuma. Through some skillful sleuthing (read: I read the press release) we also have a price and in fact information on the resolution that Danganronpa: Trigger Happy Havoc will be arriving with on PC.

Danganronpa will be arriving on Steam on February 18th, placing it after the first wave of launches in Early February (XCom 2Firewatch, and Unravel for example) but before Fire Emblem and Far Cry arrive to take over later in the month. While many games when arriving on Steam from handheld or especially mobile platforms fail to update the visuals, our new set of screenshots show us that Danganronpa: Trigger Happy Havoc will be arriving in beautiful 1080p rescuing it from the deprivations of the PlayStation Vita's small screen.

As for price, Danganronpa: Trigger Happy Havoc won't be giving PC users a premium price upgrade or a break - arriving at the same $29.99 price that the PlayStation Vita goes for. There is however a launch week discount for 20% to help there and everyone who purchases in that time frame can get the 16-track bonus OST "Despair in Stereo" which will not be available for purchase separately.

Danganronpa Evidence

Additionally Danganronpa: Trigger Happy Havoc will also arrive with some of the standard steam side benefits you've come to expect in games. There will be a set of steam trading cards (9 in total) which you can sell to subsidize your purchase or use to craft the 6 badges and get one of the 5 backgrounds and emoticons that are also coming with the title on Steam. For those who want to take a look here, we have a preview from my sleuthing (see above) of the backgrounds and the trading cards which show some work put into them. The Emoticons especially stand out with a neat 8-bit design!

Additionally, Spike Chunsoft has told us in the past that Danganronpa 2: Goodbye Dispair will also be arriving on Steam in the future. As of right now though, you can follow Danganronpa: Trigger Happy Havoc on steam and add it to your wishlist if you want, and stay tuned to TechRaptor for all the information on it. Oh, and if you want to know more about it, we reviewed it back on the Vita back then.

Update: We were able to confirm that the Steam release will have achievements in it. They will be the same as the PlayStation Vita version.

Quick Take

While we won't be able to tell for 100% sure until it's released it looks like Spike Chunsoft is doing everything it can to make this release a success and plans on supporting the PC going forward. Taking the time to up the resolution and hand craft some neat little bits there show care put into the port which we don't always see from Japanese developers.
