After attending a 50 minute live gameplay presentation, I learned a lot more about the sort of character customization options you’ll have in Cyberpunk 2077. Since Cyberpunk 2077 is based on a pen and paper RPG, it has a ton of ways for you to make the main character V your own. Those familiar with those sorts of character options will find the following familiar.

For a ton more info, check out our article from last year detailing what we learned of Cyberpunk 2077.

First, the character creator seemed pretty extensive. What we saw was unfinished, but you could choose a male or female character and go wild from there. That includes adjusting things like jawlines, body type, and more. So, if you like to make a character look just right, Cyberpunk 2077 will have something for you. You’ll also get the option to choose the origin of your character, which will change their view of the world and offer up things like different dialogue options.

There are no classes in Cyberpunk 2077, but the core of your character is based around your attributes. Those are: Body, Intelligence, Reflex, Tech, and Cool. These affect a ton of things in Cyberpunk 2077, from your ability to do certain things around the world like hack or bust down a door, to the various dialogue choices you may have at a given time.

Beyond that, there are a ton of perks you can put points into. These are where your individual playstyles will come to be. Do you want to be a quick moving silent assassin with katanas? Maybe you’re interested more in having an arsenal and blowing your enemies away. The amount of perks on display account for that.

You could even build a character around no combat at all, instead as a hacker who can manipulate the world around them to do their will. That includes just about anything, from security cameras, to doors, to turrets, and more. You can get in and out the way you want and use an enemy’s weapon against them.

The perks range from affecting the athletics of your character to their knowledge of engineering. You can put perks into basically every type of gun you can think of—pistols, sniper rifles, shotguns, etc.—and in things like assassinations. The screen they showed was only up for a limited time, so I don’t know them all, but there seemed to be close to 20 if not more of them you could mess with.

It is through those perks and attribute configurations that you create your own “class.” You decide what your character will do and Cyberpunk 2077 can accommodate a whole heck of a lot of ways to play.

Beyond that, even the clothes you wear affect your character. What you’re wearing will change things like how Cool you appear to other characters. If you dress up in a suit and look like someone from a corporation, your average person on the street is going to be pretty wary of you. How characters interact with the main character V will be influenced quite a bit by what they’re wearing.
