While we're still waiting for the upcoming DLC Cuphead: The Delicious Last Course, a new free update to this shoot 'em up game adds a few new features worth checking out.

Cuphead Update 1.2 is available now on PC and Mac. For those who wanted to play Mugman over the eponymous Cuphead, you can now select either from a character selection screen. Mugman was originally only usable by a second player in co-op.

This update also includes animated cutscenes. Originally, cutscenes were static images; now, they are "fully animated." There's a whole new reason to experience this game once again if you haven't picked it up in a while.

Studio MDHR went so far as to include new animations and art in different fights throughout Cuphead, according to the announcement:

Cuphead and Mugman have multiple fight intros! Legendary Chalice now grants Super Arts with a blast of magical energy! Mummies explode in a shower of confetti! Dozens of other dazzling additions and adjustments throughout the game!
This update brings localization to eleven different languages in addition to English. This includes Spanish, German, and Russian. MDHR hired calligraphers "to bring the Boss & Level title lettering to life in Korean, Chinese, and Japanese." The letters are written in a style akin to early cartoons in these countries.

Yesterday marked the release of Cuphead on the Nintendo Switch. You can download the game right now on the Nintendo eShop for $19.99. It's also still available on PC, Mac, and Xbox One and definitely worth a check out according to our review if the art didn't instantly win you over. Cuphead: The Delicious Last Course is also set to launch sometime this year, so be on the lookout for an eventual release.

Quick Take

I'm surprised that it took them so long to let players use Mugman. He's like the Luigi of Cuphead so of course, he's going to be my favorite. It's a nice little inclusion. It's also great to see all the language options available. The most people possible should try to experience Cuphead, as it was one of my favorite games of 2017. This is a good little update to hold me off until the highly anticipated The Delicious Last Course some time this year.
