EXCEED Season 2 Boxes

Dueling card games have been around for a while, and while Magic: The Gathering may still be king, an awful lot of competitors have entered the fray. EXCEED had a successful Kickstarter in September of 2015, and now they're back for the next season of the game. The second season features characters from Seventh Cross, an upcoming game world from Level 99 Games (the publishers of EXCEED and many other titles).

EXCEED is an easy-to-understand dueling card game that comes in self-contained boxes. There's no booster packs or anything of the like to sink hundreds of dollars into—buy the boxes you want and go. Each "season" of the game will feature fighters from different universes, and for this season Level 99 games is using this game as the opening salvo for their new Seventh Cross IP, which is intended to be the setting of other future game projects by the publisher.

In EXCEED, players move back and forth fighting one another along a "game board" comprised of nine spaces (represented by face-down cards). Each player has a deck that includes their attack cards, and ultimately they're trying to reduce their opponent's life points down to 0. Season 2 of the game introduces the "Transformation" game mechanic where the playstyle of characters changes completely once they enter into EXCEED mode.

The pledge tiers offer a lot of flexibility for backers. The $25 Church Initiate pledge gives you the choice of one of the four standalone boxes. It includes four fighters and everything you need to play the game. The $45 Church Hunter pledge gets you the choice of two standalone boxes, and the $80 Church Paladin level will get you all four standalone boxes for the game featuring all 16 fighters. The $100 Church Inquisitor pledge adds in a playmat to the package of four game boxes. Finally, pledging at the $160 Crossover Chaos level will provide everything in the Church Inquisitor Level along with all 16 fighters from the first season of the game.

EXCEED Box Contents
Each box from the second season of EXCEED will have all of this neat stuff in it.

As for shipping, the game is being sent out from a US-based distribution center so certain international customers may be charged additional shipping depending on where they live. The F.A.Q. advises international customers that picking up the Crossover Chaos pledge tier might be a bad deal for them; they are advised to check local and online retailers for the first season to save on any potential shipping or import costs.

This campaign has already met their $30,000 funding goal and they are now in Stretch Goal territory. The $35,000 stretch goal has been unlocked and provides a Collector's Box for the $100 Church Inquisitor pledge level. The $40,000 stretch goal will provide individual storage boxes for each of the characters with appropriate art and with enough space to accomidate sleeved cards. Finally, at $45,000, each character will have unique card backs for their respective decks.

If you'd like to see how the game actually plays, Level 99 Games streams it daily on their Twitch channel. They've also made a print & play available on their Kickstarter campaign page which features two characters from the first season of the game.  If you're interested in getting a copy of the game for yourself you can check out their Kickstarter campaign here. It ends on Sunday, April 30, 2017 at 9:00 PM Eastern Daylight Time.
