For a brief moment, a Steam page revealed that free Borderlands 2 DLC, Commander Lilith and the Fight for Sanctuary, is coming June 9th. Before the page was taken down, ResetEra managed to grab the description and screenshots. While no screenshots exist to prove the release date definitively, the associated SteamDB page reveals the date.

The scraped Steam description reads as follows:

Return to the award winning shooter-looter for a new adventure that sets the stage for the upcoming Borderlands 3. Sanctuary is under siege, the Vault's map has been stolen and a toxic gas is poisoning Pandora. Fight new bosses, explore new zones, get new loot (including an entirely new tier beyond Legendary) and join up with Lilith and the Crimson Raiders to take on a deranged villain hell-bent on ruling the planet[.]

Returning players can pursue an increased level cap of 80, while newcomers can automatically boost to level 30 and dive straight into the action.

Of note is the increased level cap, going from the current 72 to 80, as well as giving people to essentially skip an entire playthrough of leveling, starting at 30. There's no word if starting at the higher level means you start on the New Game Plus difficulty as well, but it would make sense. Additionally, the Rainbow rarity of items will add even more colorful flair to the Mad Max-inspired wastelands of Borderlands.

Those tuned into the E3 schedule will also note that June 9th is also the same day as the Microsoft press conference. This suggests we might see more of the upcoming Borderlands 3 before Gearbox reveals the existence of the DLC. Still, the DLC connecting Borderlands 2 and 3 is just a further reminder that Borderlands 3 is set to be a timed exclusive on the Epic Games Store. Of course, since Borderlands: The Handsome Collection is part of the free games for June via PlayStation Plus, making the DLC free for everyone is a good way to prepare newfound fans for the upcoming fall release. With June 9th fast approaching, we'll see if this leak is true or not this Sunday.
