A Clock Tower inspired title named ‘Project Scissorswas announced during this year’s Tokyo Game Show Indie Stream event.  The project team includes game designer and Clock Tower (SNES, PS1) director Hifumi Kouno,  Silent Hill creative designer Masahiro Ito, and Takashi Shimizu, director of the Ju-on film series. While the official announcement establishes the game on PlayStation Vita, iOS and Android devices, the fact that it is being developed on the Unity Pro engine means that it might also see a future PS3 and PS4 release.

While commenting on the project, Kouno talked about the challenges of working with an indie release and revealed that the game has been in production for the past five years. He noted that the announcement comes near the 20th anniversary of the first release in the Clock Tower series and credited it as being a primary inspiration.

Clock Tower was a Japan only release in 1995 by Human Entertainment for the Super Famicom. It was heavily influenced by Dario Argento’s 1985 horror film Phenomena, and is considered to be a pioneer in the survival horror genre alongside titles such as Sweet Home and Resident Evil. Kouno continued to direct Clock Tower 2, which saw a stateside release as Clock Tower for the Sony Playstation in 1996, while subsequent releases absent Kouno distanced themselves from the previous installments before experiencing a complete redesign in Capcom’s Clock Tower 3.

Don’t book your cruise vacation for next year just yet, because ‘Project Scissors‘ is reportedly set “atop the ocean in a luxury passenger ship” and asks “As the victims continue to pile up, will you be able to survive?” It might be safer to stay at home and watch reruns of The Love Boat.
