Based on a listing on its Japanese Amazon page, Clannad on PS4 will support both English and Japanese text, a first for a console release of the visual novel. Clannad, which was revealed earlier this week for the PS4, has never seen a release on our shores on anything other than PC. While there's no official confirmation of a localized version of Clannad, supporting an English translation will make Clannad on PS4 a hot target for importers. Clannad on PS4 will also support 1080p resolution, as well as 5.1 channel surround sound. Clannad will release for the PS4 on June 14th, 2018 in Japan, and cost 5200 JPY.

Clannad tells the story of Tomoya Okazaki. A social recluse born out of his parents' difficult relationship, he finds himself navigating high school life without any friends or real hopes for the future. This changes one day when he meets Nagisa Furukawa. The daughter of bakers, she takes a liking to Tomoya, despite his rough mannerisms. The two are united by the goal of resurrecting the drama club and graduating high school.

Clannad has long been one of the most popular visual novels. After an astoundingly successful Kickstarter, Sekai Project gave the melodramatic visual novel its first official English-language release. It saw a couple of extremely popular anime adaptations as After Story, in particular, is one of the most highly-reviewed series of all time. Key, for their own part, has long been known as a purveyor of high-quality nakiages, or "crying games." No stranger to emotionally-wrenching stories, since the early 2000s, Key has worked tirelessly to reimagine the idea of what visual novels can be. Moving away from adult content was a gamble when titles like Kanon and Air were new, but it has paid off in the years since. With any luck, anyone interested in playing through Tomoya's story for themselves can pick up Clannad on PS4 when it releases this summer.
