It’s just under a month until you’re able to play the next big installment Sid Meier’s grand-strategy franchise, and Civilization VI is shaping up to  be a good one, not in the least because of the complete graphical overhaul. We already got a ton of new information regarding the game’s mechanics, the civs and their leaders and now we get one of the last pieces of the puzzle: system requirements

We’re happy to report that we’ve just locked down our system requirements for Civilization VI. Thank you for your patience while we tested a variety of systems to ensure Civilization VI is as optimized as it can be.

Minimum

OS: Windows 7 64bit / 8.1 64bit / 10 64bit
Processor: Intel Core i3 2.5 Ghz or AMD Phenom II 2.6 Ghz or greater
Memory: 4 GB Ram
Hard Drive: 12 GB or more
DVD-Rom: Required for disc-based installation
Video Card: 1 GB DirectX 11 Video Card (AMD 5570 or nVidia 450)

That’s nothing short of reasonable. I think you’ll be hard-pressed to find a modern system that isn’t in some way capable of running the game.

Recommended

OS: Windows 7 64bit / 8.1 64bit / 10 64bit
Processor: Fourth generation Intel Core i5 2.5 Ghz or AMD FX8350 4.0 Ghz or greater
Memory: 8 GB RAM
Hard Drive: 12 GB or more
DVD-Rom: Required for disc-based installation
Video Card: 2 GB DirectX 11 Video Card (AMD 7970 or nVidia 770 or greater)

This, too, will probably not be much of a problem for most people since the recommended specs seem to be aimed at mid range systems for the most part.

Do keep in mind that you’ll need an active internet connection to authenticate the game on Steam. Once you’ve done that you will be able to play the game offline to your heart’s content.

Sid Meier’s Civilization VI is scheduled to release on October 21 for PC. Mac and Linux users will have to wait for a port, assuming a port is in the works.

I've been playing games since I was just barely able to walk, and I never really stopped playing them. When I'm not fulfilling my duties as assistant news editor and tech reviewer, I'm either working on music, producing one of two podcasts or doing freelance work.
