Sid Meier’s Civilization VI: Rise and Fall, is the first expansion for the latest title in the Civilization series, and will be available for Windows PC on February 8th, 2018.

The new expansion introduces a new city loyalty system called the Great Ages, and Governors that help expand previously existing Diplomacy and Government systems. Also added are nine new leaders and eight new civilizations, new units, districts, wonders, and buildings.

Here is a more comprehensive list of changes:

  • Great Ages: Player's civilizations will experience Dark Ages or Golden Ages, which will either provide specific challenges or bonuses depending on their actions in-game. If a player does well during a Dark Age, the next Golden Age will be "stronger" then the one before, called a Heroic Age.
  • Loyalty: Cities will have individual loyalty to the player, which comes with its own problems. If you let a cities' loyalty fall to low, the player could face low yields, revolts, and the potential to lose the city to independence or another civilization. This can be worked to the player's advantage as they wrest the control of cities from other players as well.
  • Governors: These are characters that can be unique specialization bonuses and promotion trees that can be used to customize a players' cities and reinforce their loyalty toward the player.
  • Enhanced Alliances: A reworked system that allows players to form different types of alliances and help build bonuses over time.
  • Emergencies: When a civilization grows too powerful, other civilizations can band together and create pact against the overly powerful civilization. If they choose to do so, they can earn rewards or penalties when the situation ends.
  • Timeline: Players can now review their civilization's history at any time, viewing a "visual journey" of Historic Moments that they encountered on their path to victory.
  • New Leaders and Civs: Nine leaders and eight new civilizations are to be introduced, with each bringing their own unique bonuses and gameplay. Eight unique units, two unique buildings, four unique improvements and two unique districts will also be added.
  • New Global Content: Players will be able to utilize eight new world wonders, seven natural wonders, four new units, two new tile improvements, two new districts, fourteen new buildings, and three new resources while building their civilization.
  • Improved Gameplay Systems: The Government system has been enhanced with new Policies, as well as adding additional improvements that have been made to existing systems.
