Chucklefish, the publisher behind StarboundStardew Valley, and numerous other indie games, has announced a new game by the name of Eastward according to a tweet from the company's official account.

Although Chucklefish has certainly developed their own titles, they've also picked up publishing duties for some other indies (most famously, of course, Stardew Valley) after their initial success with StarboundEastward is an adventure game that mixes RPG elements with a distinctly '90s style developed by Pixpil, a small indie studio in Shanghai. The studio is making the game with an engine of their very own creation based on MOAI, a cross-platform C++/Lua engine. The game's aesthetic is largely centered on the pixel art of Hong Moran with a particularly apocalyptic flair. A trailer for the game was released alongside the blog post announcing this new title:

Players will be taking on the role of a "digger" by the name of John in a world where the human population has shrunk to an all-time low.  While John was hard at work, he discovered a secret underground facility with a young girl locked up inside. John ends up getting exiled from his village, and its up to him to safely guide this mysterious young girl through a post-apocalyptic world filled with dangerous creatures and equally-strange people.

No release date for Eastward has been set. Right now the game is being developed for PC & Mac, although the developers haven't ruled out the possibility of it making its way to consoles. You can find out more about the game by heading on over to its official website.

Quick Take

A combination of Earthbound/Mother and The Last Of Us? Sign me right the heck up, this looks awesome.
