Chime 2

When Chime was released on XBox Live Arcade in 2010, the game received rave reviews. For developer Ste Curran, it's "unfinished business."

"I’m so pleased to be returning to it," he said in a press release. "We’re halfway through rebuilding the game from scratch and I’m looking forward to working with new artists in a new aesthetic and—hopefully—finding new ways to play too."

The follow up to the game, Chime 2, was announced on March 12 and is expected to be out later this year on Windows, Mac and Linux.

Chime is a puzzle game in which the player fits tetris-like shapes together on a grid in order to form larger shapes. The larger the new shape is, the more points you get. Meanwhile, the shapes you lay down contribute to the background music.

Music featured in the game ranged from Brazil by Philip Glass, Spilled Cranberries by Markus Schulz and Ooh Yeah by Moby. The windows release of the game included a new level based on Still Alive, the song featured in the Portal ending credits.

The first Chime game was published by OneBigGame, the world's "first and only" non-profit gaming publisher, and developed by the company Zoe Mode. The new game is being published by Chilled Mouse, the company that published the Steam release of Warhammer Quest. It is being developed by TwistPlay.

Along with the announcement, a new website was made for Chime 2, though there's not much there besides a subscribe bar. The website is in progress.

Along with Curran, Chilled Mouse director Ian Baverstock is also excited about the game.

"The creation of a sequel to Chime has been something I have wanted to do for a long time. The first game was fantastic but we always felt that there was more that could be done with the idea and now we can make that happen," said Baverstock in a press release.
