Veteran tabletop RPG publisher Chaosium has announced a partnership with video game publisher Focus Home Interactive. The two will create a series of games based on the Call of Cthulhu tabletop role-playing system.

The partnership was announced via the official Chaosium Inc. Twitter account yesterday. Very few details are currently known about the partnership or exactly what it will yield. All we do know is that the two companies will be working on a series of video games based on Call of Cthulhu. The tweet says the partnership is "long-term", which would imply a number of games over a long period of time.

Chaosium says it will have more details about the partnership "soon". As the tweet states, Focus Home Interactive published the recent Call of Cthulhu: The Official Video Game, which the company says is inspired more by the tabletop RPG than by the original Lovecraft story. Call of Cthulhu: The Official Video Game was developed by French studio Cyanide. We don't yet know whether Cyanide will be working on these new Cthulhu games or whether Focus will seek alternative development options. We'll bring you more on this as it develops.

Chaosium Inc. was founded in 1975 and is one of the oldest tabletop video game publishers still extant. The company is based in Ann Arbor, MI. Its most well-known properties include the aforementioned Call of Cthulhu as well as fantasy system RuneQuest. Chaosium has also branched out into fiction, publishing a line of books themed around H.P. Lovecraft's work as well as influencing the Wild Cards sci-fi series. This partnership with Focus Home will be Chaosium's first official venture into the video game industry.

Focus Home Interactive is a French video game publisher responsible for publishing games like Call of Cthulhu: The Official Video GameThe Surge, and Styx: Master of Shadows. Focus is also a developer, having worked on the Cities XL series since acquiring it from defunct studio Monte Cristo in 2012. You can check out TechRaptor's review of Call of Cthulhu right here.
