A few days ago Project Vaulderie received a cease and desist e-mail from CCP Games telling them to stop using all copyrighted materials relating to the game. Without the legal right to use the Vampire the Masquerade Bloodlines brand or assets from the game, the project is sadly ending.

Development for the remake was first announced last April of this year. The goal of the project was to port the game to Unity from the Source engine. This would allow them to add new features unavailable with Source, as well as giving the game a modern graphical update. Many bug fixes for the game were also planned.

The team had originally hoped to discuss matters of copyright over the franchise with Activision. Their plan was to launch the game through Steam for free to anyone who owned the original Vampire the Masquerade Bloodlines. The problem is that Activision does not retain rights to the game assets themselves, which belong to CCP games. This goes against what they were originally told by a contact from CCP Games, someone who has since left the company.

Developers and former employees of White Wolf have reached out to the team to offer their sympathies for the project’s end.

Been playing games for over half my life. I like to think that I have a wide variety of tastes in genres, while still being mindful of quality.
