In addition to normal, in-person events, online tournaments are held as regional events for the Capcom Pro Tour. This is a great way to allow for people who can’t travel often to participate and have a chance at earning CPT points. This past weekend, the third North American online event of the year was held, and with over 200 entrants, many big names participated.

Due to being a one-game event, the tournament took place over the course of a single day, and streaming was handled by the official CapcomFighters channel on Twitch. As usual, players will be listed in “[sponsor/team name] | [player name] [[characters used]]” format.

801 Strider, one of the best Laura players in North America, took home the win after coming up from losers and achieving a reset in grand finals, and earned 160 CPT points to show for it, which pushes his place on the CPT standings up just enough to be within the Capcom Cup qualification window. PR Balrog’s 7th place finish earns him 10 CPT points, but that didn’t stop him from being knocked down two spots in the standings this past weekend. Fchamp, who came in 9th, earned 5 points for his work, which doesn’t mean much considering he’s already in the top 20.

XsK Samurai’s 5th place finish earned him 6 CPT points, which pushes him up one rank in the leaderboard, but still outside of qualification range. Alex Myers, also in fifth, earned 20 CPT points, which is just enough to push him into the top 50 on the leaderboards. The only other competitor currently in the top 50 is Flash, who receives 5 points for his 9th place finish; keeping him at 48th place in the CPT standings.

Many players were disqualified due to being no-shows, but this isn’t irregular considering the nature of the tournament. Notable attendees who didn’t show up include Echo Fox’s Justin Wong, Evil Geniuses’ Ricki Ortiz, and Chris Tatarian.

More About This Game

Matthew Fetrow

I've been playing video games since 4 years of age, and finally began to deeply invest myself into the world of fighting games in 2015 after many off-and-on encounters with games inside the genre. I have a preference for 3D fighters, but also enjoy Street Fighter, King of Fighters, and some airdashers. I'm also a big fan of RPGs and shmups.
