Bungie tries to appeal to those gamers that can't decide yet if Destiny is the kind of game for them and want to take a taste of it before making the final decision. Infact, since November 18th, all console owners can download a free Trial version (PS4 and Xbox One) or a Demo (Ps3 and Xbox 360) of Destiny via digital download. The difference between Trial and Demo versions is only in the size of the download (20 GB for trial, 6 GB for Demo). Beside that, they hold the same content.

The trial will let you create your character and play it up to level 7. In these few levels, you will have access to the tower and its vendors to prepare yourself to deal with 5 story missions settled in Old Russia. You will be also able to team up with two other players and have your first taste of a 3-player cooperative strike: the "Den of Devils".

In 7 levels this trial promises to show you the core elements of the game. And should you decide to purchase the full game after it, your progress will be transferred (at the condition that you buy the game on the same console family) so you can continue right where you left off.

The size of the download is not exactly "tiny". That means that, of course, consoles with small hard drives will be unable to download and play the trial. Bungie wrote that the trial is compatible with all the PS4 and Xbox One models and all the PS3 and Xbox 360 models except the following ones:

  • Xbox 360™ Arcade Console
  • Xbox 360™ 4 GB Console
  • Xbox 360™ Core System
  • PlayStation®3 12 GB System

So if you have one of those and want to play the Destiny trial, you should consider an internal hard drive upgrade. External storages are not compatible either.

This new free trial time will allow Bungie to prepare the terrain for the release of the first expansion for Destiny, scheduled for the 9th of December. So, jump in the PlayStation Store or the Xbox Store to download the demo and go on the hunt for loot.
