Good news wild west fans: Red Dead Redemption 2 comes out soon. However, maybe you're not in the mood for the latest game from Rockstar. In fact, some may want a blast from the past. Back in 2013, Techland released Call of Juarez Gunslinger, a wild west first-person shooter well remembered for its unique storytelling. In a bit of a strange move, Techland has not only updated the game's Facebook page for the first time in five years but has also released a mysterious new trailer for the game.

The trailer is only about 30 seconds long, and it just shows a few random shots from the game. The trailer frames itself as a message from Gunslinger's main character, Silas Greaves, to Red Dead Redemption 2's main character Arthur Morgan. In it, Silas notes that legends never die and that Arthur's legend will likely be one of the best. The trailer ends with a shot of Silas as he says some legends come back stronger than ever.

While this trailer posted back on October 8th, Techland has done a few more interesting things. On October 5th they updated the Call of Juarez Facebook page with a new profile picture and header image, both of which use imagery from Call of Juarez: Gunslinger. In addition to this, they made a post written in character from Silas Greaves, noting that he "hasn't been here in many years." This is quite true, as the last update to this page was back in 2013.

For those who missed it when it first came out, Call of Juarez Gunslinger was the fourth entry into the wild west first-person shooter series. While the other three games (two, if you choose to pretend Call of Juarez: The Cartel doesn't exist, as I do) followed one another in a mostly realistic version of the wild west, Gunslinger chose to instead dive into the weird west. The game played out as a story told by another gunslinger, and elements of the game would shift and change depending on how he told the story. Recently the game made news when it was temporally taken off of Steam and the Xbox Marketplace. Thankfully, it turns out the reason was just that Techland got the publishing rights for the game back from Ubisoft, and it was back before long.

Quick Take:

It seems almost overwhelmingly obvious that Techland is going to be remastering Call of Juarez Gunslinger sometime in the near future, especially since they got the publishing rights again recently. Deep down, I'd love to think a sequel is also in the works. Gunslinger is easily my favorite wild west game, even more so than Red Dead Redemption. In addition, I've always had a soft spot for the Call of Juarez series. Even The Cartel, if it actually existed. Which it doesn't.
