A mobile-exclusive iteration of the Call of Duty franchise is headed to iOS and Android. Titled Call of Duty: Mobile, the game will collect some of the most popular game modes, weapons, characters, and maps from Call of Duty history. It'll be a free-to-play title, but what exactly that might entail in terms of payment structures and microtransactions is unclear right now.

What we do know is that the game will be an iOS and Android-exclusive multiplayer FPS that will offer players the chance to duke it out across series favorite maps like Nuketown, Hijacked, and more. Multiplayer game modes will include Team Deathmatch, Search and Destroy, and Free-for-All, with more modes to be announced in the future. Activision and Tencent say players will be able to "unlock classic Call of Duty characters, weapons, scorestreaks and other gear" as they play the game. The official teaser trailer also hints at a battle royale mode by showing a fleet of helicopters flying over a massive Black Ops 4-style island.

Development on Call of Duty: Mobile is being handled by Timi Studio, a Tencent-owned company whose previous mobile projects include PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds: Army Attack. Unlike the main Call of Duty series which uses a proprietary game engine, Call of Duty: Mobile is being developed using the Unity 3D engine. Tencent's Steven Ma says the company "couldn't be happier working together with Activision to bring Call of Duty to life on mobile", while Activision's VP of Mobile says Call of Duty: Mobile will be an "epic experience" with "incredible graphics and visceral gameplay".

We don't have word yet on a release date for Call of Duty: Mobile, but Activision has said there'll be a public beta this summer for those who want to try the game out. If you want access to the beta (as well as more news as and when), Activision says you should head over to the official website for the game and stay tuned to TechRaptor.
