As 2017 comes to a close and all the major game releases find their way into people's homes, a more solid picture of the winners and losers of the year starts to form. Ever since its release on November 3, Call of Duty: WWII has blitzkrieged its way to the top of many sales charts, even setting a couple of records along the way. According to Ukie.Org, a nonprofit trade body that represents a number of businesses in the United Kingdom's games industry, Call of Duty has no intention of relinquishing its title as the most popular game of the holiday season either as it claims the honor of being the most purchased retail game in the UK for the fifth week in a row.

Other strong contenders in the UK's December 2nd sales charts included FIFA 18, Gran Turismo: Sport, Star Wars Battlefront 2, and Assassin's Creed Origins, a clear indicator that for all the complaints that people have over the proliferation of loot boxes and pay to win mechanics, the game's have still managed to sell fairly well. The presence of Grand Theft Auto V in 9th place all continues that game's longterm sales dominance, despite any complaints regarding Shark Cards and microtransactions in GTA Online.

Unsurprisingly, Nintendo made a strong showing during the week, with Super Mario Odyssey and Mario Kart 8 Deluxe claiming the 6th and 8th spot on the sales chart respectively, showing a great improvement over the previous week, undoubtedly fueled by Black Friday and Cyber Monday sales. Wolfenstein 2 on the other hand dropped to 14th place (from 7th) on the sales chart, though that is to be somewhat expected given the game's more linear nature. Similarly, Destiny 2 finds itself near the bottom of the chart, dropping to the 22nd spot, being outsold by Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare. Rainbow 6 Siege, despite its age and decidedly steep learning curve that is definitely not for casuals, surprisingly is managing to keep pace with Overwatch, sitting at the 38th spot while Overwatch is at 35.
