Black Ops 3

The previous gen versions of Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 are going to be paired down a bit, according to Activision.

The PS3 and Xbox 360 versions of Black Ops 3 will have less features than current gen versions on the PS4 and Xbox One. The biggest features cut include the lack of a campaign mode for previous gen systems, meaning any storyline and co-op gameplay is stripped from the title completely.

Other features missing from Black Ops 3 include the lack of esport tools and the removal of the weapon paint shop, a new feature being touted for Black Ops 3 to allow customization of character weapons builds. Activision stated that these features were, "built to leverage the next generation hardware," meaning they were built for the PS4 and Xbox One in mind.

While Black Ops 3 will be lacking these features for the PS3 and Xbox 360, the games will still retain the full blown multiplayer experience, complete with the new momentum and chain-movement system. Players will also have access to the new Specialist class of solider, and the zombie mode titled Shadows of Evil. Players will also receive a downloadable code for the original Call of Duty: Black Ops.

The PS3 and Xbox 360 version of Black Ops 3 is not being ported by Treyarch this time around, but rather two different studios, Beenox and Mercenary Technology.

Beenox has been primarily responsible for the Skylanders series since 2013, and has developed media franchised-based games in the past, including Spider Man, Transformers and other movie-based video games. The studio also does QA work for Activision. Mercenary Technology is a newer company formed in 2010 that encompasses numerous industry veterans, who have worked on a variety of games in the past. Black Ops 3 will be their biggest developer credit to date.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 shall be released for the PS3 and Xbox 360 on November 6th, at $49.99.

So will this version of Black Ops 3 be the one to get? Does the stripping of features make sense? Leave your comments below.
