Destiny The Taken King

Destiny is reaching its one year anniversary as well as the release of the new DLC The Taken King and with it security seems to also be tightening. Earlier this week Deej, Bungie's Community Manager, tweeted out that he was having a meeting with the Security Response Team and with the news blog post today the purpose of that meeting has been revealed.

The Security Response Team has explained that to ensure the best possible player experience that they will begin to implement Restrictions and Bans on players who are cheating or otherwise manipulating the game out of the usual parameters. The result of a Restriction is a time out from being able to play one or more parts of the game, and a Ban means that you will no longer be able to play Destiny at all. Restrictions will be given to 'disruptive players' and will have a week or two time out for a first offence but if you keep being disruptive then you might even see yourself getting a multiple month ban. If your internet connection is consistently unstable then you might even get a temporary restriction from the crucible until the issue is resolved, but they point out that this will only happen in the most extreme cases so people shouldn't be worried. Bans on the other hand are issued to "The players we never want to see in the world of Destiny again." so don't expect a second chance.

It is also recommended to guardians that they steer clear of anything that might seem shady as they might get caught up in a Restriction by being part of the offenders Fireteam, some examples given of this are people who will guarantee a flawless run in Trials of Osiris, especially if they want you to pay for it. The team has computers monitoring every statistic, and you can see most of it at Bungie.net, so they are able to tell when rules have been broken but will always manually double check what has happened before they will issue Restrictions or Bans to players.

If you would like to read the full statement as well as more in this weeks update then here is the direct link to the Bungie Weekly News post.

What do you think of the implementation of Restrictions and Bans? Have you seen any nefarious looking Guardians while doing your chest run?
