The dedicated Bubsy community will be sad to hear that the next game in the cult series is releasing a bit later than expected. Originally slated for April, Bubsy: Paws on Fire! will now launch on May 16th, 2019. Paws on Fire! is developed by Choice Provisions, known for the BIT.TRIP series. This new entry into the Bubsy franchise has potential under the helm of veteran auto-runner developers.
In addition to the delay, a Bubsy: Paws of Fire! Limited Edition was announced for PS4 and the Nintendo Switch with the Switch version exclusively having a reversible cover. Both versions share a "deluxe Player's guide with never before seen images of Bubsy and his crew" and well as a "CD sampler of the OST."
Back in February, we reported on a Kickstarter for Bubsy: Paws on Fire! And no, it wasn't for the main game but rather a DLC pack. This Kickstarter failed, although it received nearly $18 thousand dollars in funding and 444 backers total. It fell short of its $25 thousand dollar goal. Perhaps the month delay for the main game was in part due to the failed Kickstarter campaign.

Bubsy: Paws on Fire! is an autorunner platformer. Players control Bubsy and his crew as they navigate perilous environments in "over 140 levels and variations across three different worlds." It also features boss battles, a cosmetic shop, and a story.
Bubsy: Paws on Fire launches on May 16th, 2019 for the Nintendo Switch and PS4. You can pre-order the newly announced Limited Edition now, as well.
Quick Take
I know Bubsy is a series with a rather notorious reputation. Hear me out, though: I think this could be the best Bubsy yet. While the bar is already set pretty low, I do actually have faith in the developers. Choice Provisions are very competent developers and I believe they have what it takes to redeem ol' Bubsy.
