2018's God of War was a pretty darn good game, all things considered. If you liked it as much as we did, you'll be happy to learn there's a card game on the way. God of War: The Card Game brings Kratos' world to the tabletop one Quest at a time.

In CMON's God of War: The Card Game, one to four players must work together as heroes from the video game. Players will battle enemies and bosses from God of War (that's the 2018 version, not the 2005 original). CMON says the enemies and bosses will be "remixed in exciting new ways", creating What If-style scenarios with each new game. The objective of the game is characteristically small-scale: prevent Ragnarok and save the world.

Gameplay-wise, God of War: The Card Game revolves entirely around Quests. Each Quest is made up of card mosaics which recreate monsters and locations from God of War. Quests require different strategies to overcome, and which Quests players complete early on will have an impact on which Quests they must face later. If players choose not to complete Quests, they may come up against serious consequences later in gameplay.

There's also a deck-building element to the game. Heroes begin each game of God of War: The Card Game with a unique starting deck. Said deck can be augmented with cards from other decks as the game progresses, creating specialized builds or jack-of-all-trades approaches depending on what each Quest calls for. God of War: The Card Game looks to combine deck-building with a narrative-focused style of gameplay to create a truly faithful adaptation of Sony's magnum opus.

CMON is launching God of War: The Card Game in Q3 2019. We don't know the specific launch date yet, so we'll keep you posted.
