Brendan Greene, best known as the "PlayerUnknown" of PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds, will head up a new corporate venture for the PUBG Corporation. The new team will be known as "PUBG Special Projects" and Greene says they'll be focusing on research and development for multiplayer gaming.

In an announcement made via Twitter, Greene describes the mission of PUBG Special Projects as "exploring, experimenting, and creating new technologies, tools, pipelines, and gameplay". As part of the new venture, Greene will be relocating from the PUBG Corporation's headquarters in Seoul to its Amsterdam office which was opened last year. Development on PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds will now be led by the game's art director Taeseok Jang, along with several other members of the development team. Greene says he will remain as a "consulting creative director", although exactly what this entails is unclear. It's likely he'll be there as a hands-off guiding presence rather than an actively involved team member.

If you're worried that this means PUBG won't be enjoying the same update schedule and new content as usual, fear not - Greene has assured players and fans that the development team "[has] some great things planned for this year". He says he'll be sharing more details with fans on this content soon.

PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds was originally released via Steam Early Access in March 2017. By May that same year, the game had sold over 2 million copies. An official full release followed in December 2017, by which point the game had already surpassed the 10 million sales mark. Developer Bluehole set up the PUBG Corporation in September 2017 in order to handle development and business matters relating to PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds. We're still not sure what Brendan Greene and the Special Projects arm of the PUBG Corporation are working on, so stay tuned for more info on this as and when we get it.
