Although Cloud Saves are supposed to protect your progress, it seems that Borderlands 3 save data is being corrupted despite this specific sort of failsafe being in place. Users have lost hours of progress, falling victim to some unidentified problem that is putting a serious damper on the launch of such a hotly-anticipated game.

Borderlands 3 Save Data Isn't So Safe

As IGN reports, one player of the game says that he lost 7 hours of gameplay with no discernible explanation.

"I just lost 7 hours of work from Borderlands 3 because something went wrong with the cloud save that Epic has is there a way to revert it back so [I] don't lose all that time and all the gear [I] got?" Dylan Robinson asked on Twitter. "When I [started] the game it said that something went wrong with the cloud save. It then gave me the option to either download to my computer or update the cloud, and I chose to download to my computer. Doing so [I] wrote over old save files, is there a way to revert this?"

"I bet this wouldn't have happened if Borderlands 3 was on steam and not just [an] epic games exclusive but oh well," he concluded.

Mr. Robinson is unfortunately not alone, with Twitch streamer Vanderforge also having issues with his save data as shown in the linked Twitch clip.

Video games — big or small — are sometimes prone to rough launches, but save data is the one thing that you absolutely need to get right. Whether it's the game, the Epic Games Store, or something else entirely, it seems like Gearbox Software has dropped the ball on this one. It's now up to them to fix it in a timely manner.

Have you encountered any issues with your Borderlands 3 save data? Do you think this would have happened if the game launched on Steam instead of the Epic Games Store? Let us know in the comments below!
