It seems that there are more than a few Borderlands 3 players out there. Randy Pitchford has said that it has the "best numbers in Gearbox history" — and this is despite the host of problems that players are facing like corrupted save data and other issues.

Borderlands 3 Players and Sales Reportedly Stellar

Let's start with the player count: according to Randy Pitchford, the number of Borderlands 3 players at launch is twice the highest peak ever reached by Borderlands 2.

"Fun Fact: On PC, the data is that the launch day peak concurrent players of Borderlands 3 is about *twice-as-high* as the [all-time] peak concurrent players of Borderlands 2," Mr. Pitchford said on Twitter. "WOW! You guys are great!"

"Incredible day with new peak concurrency (and climbing)," he continued in another tweet. "Best numbers in Gearbox history! No promises, but we *might* be ready for me to try a SHiFT code test with the Golden Key system tomorrow. If we do, it will probably be a time-limited key. SHiFT team are [god-tier] right now!"

As Borderlands 3 is an Epic Games Store exclusive, we can't easily independently verify the player numbers through something like Steam Charts. The UKIE's Chart-Track, however, has shown that the game (somewhat unsurprisingly) debuted at #1 in that country.

Borderlands 3 Console Performance Might Hold it Back

While the PC version of the game has its fair share of problems, console players might even have it worse. According to a tech analysis by Digital Foundry, both the Xbox One X and PlayStation 4 Pro are having difficulty running the game at 60 frames per second in 1080p resolution. When put into resolution mode, the Xbox One X is stable at 30 FPS but the PS4 Pro is having problems. Both base models are also having some issues according to user reports on performance.

Although the Epic exclusivity move may have upset some people, it seems that Gearbox is happy with the initial sales and number of Borderlands 3 players anyway. In the meantime, you can check out Digital Foundry's tech analysis of the game below.
