Bluehole, Inc. announced today the formation of PUBG Corp., which will handle business and development of PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds. Chang Han Kim, who lead PUBG development as its Executive Producer, will lead PUBG Corp. as its CEO. He is joined by Woongee Cho, currently the Director of Global Business for Bluehole, who will "focus on accelerating overall business development and managing global operations for PUBG." The press release suggests that Bluehole Ginno Games, acquired in 2015, has been renamed and expanded. Ginno Games, previously developers of Devilian, had been handling development of PUBG full-time at Bluehole's offices in South Korea.

Given PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds global success, we want to ensure that we have the operational efficiency that is required to support the game globally. This new structure allows us to be nimble as we look towards the expansion of the strategic business opportunities that include the game's potential in the esports sector, and the growth of PUBG as a true global IP franchise.

Kim's comments are noteworthy as this appears to be the first time PUBG has been mentioned as an "IP franchise." It's unclear at this time where PUBG Corp. will take its namesake, and whether this involves more games, merchandise, or more. With the success of PUBG and its microtransactions at Gamescom this year, PUBG Corp. may well look to other esports events for more tournament presence.

Bluehole also announced that they are planning on opening additional offices in Japan and Europe. With the American office already open in Madison, Wisconsin, Bluehole is indicating that PUBG development will not slow down anytime soon. It seems so long ago that PUBG crossed just one million copies sold, and now with PUBG holding the all-time concurrent players record on Steam, Bluehole has a true gaming juggernaut on their hands. In their press release, they now post that they've had over 1.5 million users concurrently and sold over 13 million copies of the game.
