The Bloody Palace is a single-elimination tournament mode in Devil May Cry games that pits the player character against several swarms of enemies and bosses, each on a lower floor until reaching the end of the Palace. Although it wasn't available in the first Devil May Cry game, it has been available in every sequel starting with Devil May Cry 2. The number of floors varies from title to title. Devil May Cry 2 and Devil May Cry 3 both had 9999 floors. Devil May Cry 4 "only" had 101 floors. The Devil May Cry 5 Bloody Palace will also have 101 floors, and the stages will be timed, just as in the previous title in the series. Other details may be found in the game's Fandom page.
The Bloody Palace trailer is a frenzied sequence of fights, and it seems to make great use of the game's lauded combat system. Our review went into detail on how this combat system transcends the button-mashing style of traditional hack-and-slash combat. It definitely looks like a great addition to the game, though it comes after release as a free update.
Devil May Cry 5 was first announced with a trailer at E3 2018 during Microsoft’s presentation. Some other details were leaked in November 2018 during the Game Awards. Previously there was also the announcement of a Devil May Cry Netflix series from Adi Shankar, the creator of the highly successful Castlevania Netflix series. The game’s release has been successful both critically and commercially, with 80-90 scores across the board on both Metacritic and OpenCritic, and our review agrees, with a 9 out of 10.
