This year's BlizzCon marks the convention's 8th year operating and its opening ceremonies didn't fail to impress.

Beginning the day was President & CEO Mike Morhaime who spoke about World of Warcraft's 10 year anniversary and how it's new expansion, Warlords of Draenor, is only a few days away from release. He also announced that a Documentary about WoW will be shown during the con which will be available for viewing on their website and later on Youtube.

Another World of Warcraft related announcement is the release of a new pet that players can buy with 100% of the proceeds going toward the Red Cross' efforts in fighting Ebola. This is another in-game item in a long line of charity items Blizzard/Activision offers players and will be available December 3, 2014 in their online webshop.

Morhaime's speech soon moved into the area of eSports, announcing that 3 quarters of a million dollars are on the line at their live tournaments. These tournaments are all available to watch for free at the BlizzCon website. The tournaments include Hearthstone, StarCraft II, World of Warcraft and Heroes of the Storm.

Heroes of the Storm then received an announcement of all-new content and it's open beta that will begin January 13, 2015. The brand new content includes brand new heroes Jaina Proudmoore, Thrall and the trio of vikings from Blizzard's classic 1992 game The Lost Vikings. Also announced were two new battlegrounds, Sky Temple and Tomb of the Spider Queen, along with a variety of new skins for players to use. More information will be available during the panels taking place during the con and can be watched live with a streaming ticket on the BlizzCon website.

Extended coverage of each panel will be available on TechRaptor as soon as they happen. Check back here for more!
