With Blizzard's games becoming increasingly more like a living and evolving service, the software giant has teamed up with social media website Facebook to augment their games with some additional social features.

This collaboration will make its debut later this month and will enable players to log in to Blizzard's games by using their Facebook account. Teaming up with Facebook also means players can utilize the social features like sharing gameplay moments. This will also allow players to directly livestream to the popular social media website. Starting a livestream will immediately post the livestream to your wall, after which your friends and followers can instantly start watching. Friends will also be able to subscribe to your streams via Facebook and will be notified whenever you go live.

Blizzard games are best when played with friends, so it’s important to us to provide our players with features and services that make it easy and fun to share their experiences with each other.

We’re working closely with Facebook on this integration for Overwatch, as well as our other games, and we look forward to sharing further details on our plans as development progresses.

-Gio Hunt, executive vice president of corporate operations at Blizzard Entertainment.

As part of the collaboration, Blizzard recently used Facebook to broadcast matches of the Heroes of the Dorm event, as well as livestream the live event for their team-based hero shooter Overwatch

“Blizzard has a passionate community of players, and an incredible track record for launching innovative and high-quality gaming experiences.

Our collaboration on Overwatch demonstrates Facebook’s commitment to partnering with AAA game companies, while further empowering Blizzard gamers to connect and share the content they’re most passionate about with the friends they play with around the world.”

- said Leo Olebe, Facebook global games partnerships director

Blizzard Entertainment already made extensive use of Facebook and Instagram to promote Overwatch, so I guess the partnership has been working out in both companies' favor!

Blizzard Entertainment recently released Overwatch to broad critical and public acclaim (we liked it too!), and Blizzard is looking into implementing cross-platform play for consoles.

What do you think of the Facebook integration? Are you going to use the streaming functionality coming to Blizzard's games?

I've been playing games since I was just barely able to walk so I might as well write about them.
