Diablo II Warcraft II Slash Split

A job opening at Blizzard Entertainment suggests that the company may be working on remastered versions of Diablo II and/or Warcraft III as reported by Blizzplanet.

The open position in question is a Senior Software Engineer for Servers under the "Classic Games" heading in Blizzard's list of job openings. The opening paragraphs of the opening, in particular, suggests that the job would be centered on modernizing classic games in some fashion:

Compelling stories. Intense multiplayer. Endless replayability. Qualities that made StarCraft, Warcraft III, and Diablo II the titans of their day. Evolving operating systems, hardware, and online services have made them more difficult to be experienced by their loyal followers or reaching a new generation.

We’re restoring them to glory, and we need your engineering talents, your passion, and your ability to get tough jobs done.

A particular note of importance is that Blizzard categorizes their job listings depending on the game or project in question. Games such as Overwatch and World of Warcraft are listed plainly. There is also the "Classic Games" category (such as for the listing this article is focused on), the "Unannounced Project" category, and more mundane business-oriented categories like "Business Intelligence" and "Finance".

Blizzard Entertainment announced Starcraft Remastered at the end of March 2017. The confirmation that the Irvine-based game developer is remastering one of its classic titles along with the broad wording in the job listing suggests that they may be looking to revive and modernize some other items in their back catalog.

To be clear, no specifics on what exactly the job is for are written anywhere; this could just as easily be a job opening for the already-announced Starcraft Remastered. However, as evidenced by other listings in Blizz's career portal, they don't seem to have an issue with specifically stating which games or project you would be applying to work on. That being the case, the lack of a proper game name attached to the listing and the description therein can suggest that the boys in blue may have their eyes on bringing back some of their other classic titles.

We've reached out to Blizzard Entertainment to inquire about this listing.

Would you be interested in a remastered version of Diablo II or Warcraft III? Which of the two do you think should be made first? How good of a job do you think Blizzard Entertainment did with their remastering efforts for Starcraft? Let us know in the comments below!
