An update for Black Ops 4 saw Treyarch messing around with the player count for Blackout, their battle royale mode. Quads now supports up to 88 players, while Duos fill feature 100 players as the new maximum. There were a number of other changes in yesterday's patch. The patch notes can be seen here.

These player counts are probably not set in stone. Treyarch are obviously keen to test the limits of their new mode, as Blackout has since several changes to max players since the beta last month. The beta started with a max of 80 players, before being increased to 88. When the game launched on October 12, the player count was 100 for Quads and 88 for both Solo and Duos.

It's interesting to see them trying different things, especially since this is Call of Duty's first attempt at the battle royale. Most games in the genre don't typically change their player count limits.

The update also addresses a number of issues players have been experiencing. A variety of issues causing the game to crash, particularly on PC, have been fixed and the PC version has been given some stability improvements, hopefully meaning PC players won't be seeing any more blackouts.

Meanwhile, the featured playlist has been changed to Heist, a new Counter Strike-like mode where players earn money that can be spent at the beginning of a round on weapons and equipment. Team Deathmatch now supports parties of 6 instead of 5.

Treyarch also highlighted that they are working on a few key issues players have pointed out. Two they are currently working on include a bug causing Multiplayer audio to not work as intended and a crash caused by PC players equipping the launcher with a specific attachment and camo.

Check out our glowing review of Black Ops 4, which calls it "the best Call of Duty has been in years".
