During the Bethesda E3 2019 conference this Sunday, we saw the founder of Tango Gameworks, Shinji Mikami take the stage, and after a brief introduction, he announced the studio's new game, Ghostwire: Tokyo. Mikami then introduced to the stage Ikumi Nakamura, Game Director of Ghostwire: Tokyo. She was somewhat shy about presenting at first, then described Ghostwire: Tokyo as a new kind of action-adventure game. Finally, she showed a teaser for the game, which basically showed many people disappearing from thin air in various locations and some specters in Japanese garb. You can see the teaser below.

According to Bethesda's official press announcement, after "strange disappearances hit Tokyo’s population," it’s up to you to uncover the source and purge the city of a strange, new evil. There's no specification of what exactly this evil is about, but you will be armed with your own mysterious abilities, to face down the occult forces as you unravel conspiracy theories and experience urban legends like never before. "Don’t fear the unknown. Attack it." is Ghostwire: Tokyo's tag line, and it seems to go in line with past Tango Gameworks' games, with the fight against evil within and without.

Ghostwire: Tokyo seems like it will follow in the tradition of Japanese horror movies, which is more existential than traditional horror, with more of a focus on existential dread than regular gore and monsters, though it's certain to have its share of that. Think movies like The Ring or Dark Water, where, though you do encounter some monster-like figures, you also confront the inherent evil in human nature rather than something outside it.

There's no other information about Ghostwire: Tokyo so far, but maybe we'll hear more about it as E3 2019 happens. You can check the game's official website and sign up for updates, or stay tuned to TechRaptor.
