After wrapping up news on their Elder Scrolls Online game, Zenimax Online Studios revealed a new game they are working on: Commander Keen. Based on the classic id Software PC series, this new online Commander Keen takes on the zany style of Saturday morning cartoons and the design of mobile games.

The creative director introduced the stars of the game, Commander Keen's children. These tots, Billy the son and Billie the daughter, must travel the universe to encounter enemies, allies, and "really bad bad guys." A core gameplay element will be dragging and dropping gadgets to attacks enemies and travel around the world.

Creative director Kira Schlitt explained that they wanted to stay true to the platforming history of the original series while making the gameplay feel mobile-first.  The game will have a story mode with classic Keen tales and several new ones, plus a Battle Mode in which players can go "helmet to helmet" in real-time with all sorts of gadget action as the players compete to capture the flags.

This marks Zenimax Online's first foray into the mobile space and marks a continuing trend for Zenimax and Bethesda putting major IPs on mobile devices with new games. Commander Keen joins the likes of The Elder Scrolls Blades and Fallout Shelter in bringing new takes to the company's IP to mobile devices.

Commander Keen soft launches this summer on iOS and Android. You can hit up its website to pre-register and those who pre-register will also receive an exclusive Space Keen costume at launch. Check out the trailer below to see all the craziness and get an idea if this new take on the Commander Keen IP is something that interests you.
