Skyrim Special Edition

Well, it's now official. Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Special Edition is coming to the Playstation 4 and Xbox One.

A short video at the Bethesda press conference showed off the new engine, which featured an increased depth of field, dynamic lighting, lighting effects, and of course, new snow and water graphics. All of the textures in the game have an increased depth of field and color texture, along with a silky new framerate to tie it all together.

The bigger news regarding Skryim on current-gen consoles, however, is the inclusion of mods for the consoles. Much like Fallout 4, Skyrim will allow console players to have access to hundreds of mods and other fan content, this time seeming right out of the gate, to download and add to your Elder Scrolls experience.

This story will be updated as we hear more information from Bethesda. Find more of our E3 coverage at our E3 2016 Coverage Hub.

Update: The showcase of the new look of Skyrim has been released in a short trailer below. In it, we see the new snow and water shaders, volumetric god rays, and the remastered art and effects in all of its glory. Some of the mods shown in the trailer include giant followers, more spells, Helegen 2.0, Bandit Quests and Friendly Dragons, among others. It is likely that some major PC mods will be made available for the consoles in quick succession when the game is released.

Speaking of which, we also get a release date for Skyrim Special Edition- October 28th of this year.
