In Berserk, there exists an event known simply as 'The Eclipse'. It's a feast for demons that only occurs once every 216 years, and easily ranks highest among the manga's laundry list of disturbing events. It is a massacre of rape, murder, and mutilation - one that leaves nothing more than a lake of the victims' blood in its wake. There is nothing else like it, nothing quite as terrifying and brutal in the entire Berserk universe. And now, Berserk and the Band of the Hawk will let you experience it firsthand.

According to a press release from Koei Tecmo, the publisher of Berserk and the Band of the Hawk, the Endless Eclipse Mode will be just about what it says on the tin. You pick a character and get thrust headfirst into the nightmarish hellscape that is the Eclipse, completing objectives and fighting against progressively difficult waves of demonic foes until every last drop of blood has left your character's body. It is currently unknown how the Eclipse map will be laid out, or even if there will be multiple maps to traverse.

What we do know, however, is the nature of sub-weapons in Berserk and the Band of the Hawk. Much like a previous musou title, Hyrule Warriors, Berserk and the Band of the Hawk features sub-weapons for each character to utilize and change up the battlefield - such as Guts' arm cannon or Schierke's long-distance spells. Of course, all of these subweapons are on a cooldown meter, to stop every encounter from becoming nothing more than projectile spam.

Berserk and the Band of the Hawk releases February 21st, 2017 for the PlayStation 4, PS Vita, and PC via Steam.

Quick Take

I can't say this is an entirely unexpected addition, but it's certainly a welcome one! The Eclipse lends itself well to an endless mode, considering the Eclipse is already a non-stop frenzy of death and destruction. I'm not quite sure how the level will be laid out, but I gotta say, the idea is certainly a gripping one.
