As mostly expected by the rapturous response to Battlefield 1’s reveal, the title is doing extremely well in its first week of sales in the UK, outselling the combined week 1 sales of Battlefield 4 and Battlefield Hardline.

Chart-Track notes that the newest Battlefield's first week of sale closely mirrored The Division’s week 1 sales from earlier this year, with EA’s title peaking "just under" Ubisoft’s title.

However, since these sales numbers only deal with physical sales, this leaves the actual number of copies sold up for debate. Bf1stats.com does slightly help in this regard, as at the time of the article there are 560,495 concurrent players split across all three platforms, with a 24-hour peak of 828,384 players re-fighting The Great War.

Here’s the top 10 for physical copies sold in the UK:

  1. Battlefield 1
  2. FIFA 17
  3. Mafia 3
  4. Gears of War 4
  5. Batman: Return to Arkham
  6. WWE 2K17
  7. Rise of the Tomb Raider: 20 Year Edition
  8. Forza Horizon 3
  9. Grand Theft Auto 5
  10. Minecraft: Xbox Edition
It’s also important to note that Civilization 6 and Lego Harry Potter Collection came in 15th and 19th place respectively.

Quick Take:

Honestly, this is to be expected. There are a lot of FPS fans who have not been liking the futuristic direction that Activision’s Call of Duty series has been taking, so Battlefield 1’s complete 180 away from the current trend was a refreshing change of scenery. Whether the title took full advantage of the setting is another story entirely, but for now it appears EA made a good choice in allowing EA Dice’s pitch of a World War 1 shooter to proceed. Hopefully, this is not a one-off and Battlefield goes back to current events after the life-cycle of Battlefield 1, as I would love to see an American Civil War or Napoleonic variant of Battlefield.
