Battlefield 1 will no longer receive monthly content updates after June this year, according to DICE content lead Jonas Elfving.

DICE released Apocalypse, the game’s fourth and final expansion pack, in early March. A post from Elfving on the Battlefield website announced that remaining monthly drops from DICE will bring content and fixes to the game until June 2018. Support for the game won't end with the monthly content updates, but there will no longer be much in the way of regular major additions.

Battlefield 1 came out way back in October 2016, making the game a year and a half old. It makes sense for DICE to be moving on to newer projects.

DICE also announced that they will soon be releasing the maps from the They Shall Not Pass DLC to all players. Everyone who owns the base game will have access to the maps, regardless of whether or not they have Premium. One map, Rupture, is already playable for all Battlefield 1 players, with more coming in May.

A new Shock Operations game mode is coming in June as part of the final few monthly updates. Shock Operations is a “bite-sized” version of the Operations mode introduced in Battlefield 1. The new mode features 40 players battling over sectors, similar to Operations, except here the match will only last for one map. It will be playable on five maps: Giant’s Shadow, Prise de Tahure, Lupkow Pass, Zeebrugge, and River Somme. Many of these are DLC maps but will be playable for everyone who owns Battlefield 1 for this mode only.

With Battlefield 1 nearly two years old, there have been (unofficial) reports about the next entry in the series. Apparently, the game will be titled Battlefield V and will have a co-op mode. Rumors claim that the campaign structure will be similar to Battlefield 1 and that it may have a battle royale mode. We hope to see it at E3 2018.
