From Hitman to Assassin's Creed to Borderlands and beyond, composer Jesper Kyd has figuratively been around the world (and universe) creating scores that never feels at odds with any kind of setting. The eerie vocals, moody tone, and fitting ensemble used to enliven the mythical, divine realms of Joe Madureira's Darksiders II are just one example of this. While he may travel across the spectrum with a host of musical genres, the BAFTA award-winning composer will be treading familiar ground as he joins forces with the Mad man once more to attempt to capture that same aural magic with Battle Chasers: Nightwar.

In a press release given to Game Informer, associate editor Kyle Hilliard relays Kyd's thoughts about returning to work with Madureira and why his music fits to a T with the comic book artist's unique style and world building.

One of the reasons why I think Joe's art and my music work so well together is the depth of atmosphere Joe brings to his work. Creating a rich atmosphere is a quality that I very much aspire to as well. Mood and depth are a key part of my music and I love that about Joe’s art.
It's worth noting that confusion arises over the fact that Nightwar already has a composer by the name of Clark Powell: a cellist who has contributed to the short film High Tide and a web comic called Homestuck. Rather than being replaced or dropping out of development, Powell happily confirmed the opposite.

Two previews of Powell's foundational work can be heard via the official website, but if you're eager to listen in to Kyd's complementary music, you can listen to that here on the composer's YouTube channel.

Battle Chasers: Nightwar is a crowdfunded JRPG with a Western twist that will continue the cult classic tale of Madureira's nearly 20-year-old comic book series Battle Chasers. It follows the story of Gully: the daughter of a legendary warrior named Aramus. She's on a quest to discover if her father is still alive after venturing into the foreboding land of The Grey Line. With the help of a strange mix of misfits, she'll go there herself and discover the truth, which is a plot line the game will finally resolve. It will be published by THQ Nordic and arrive on PS4, Xbox One, PC, and Mac sometime later this year.

Disclosure: Author backed the Battle Chasers: Nightwar Kickstarter at the "Complete Nightwar Digital Edition" Tier.
