Batman Return To Arkham

Batman: Return to Arkham has been officially announced after its leak last month. Warner Bros. have revealed the release of a Batman collection containing Batman: Arkham Asylum and Batman: Arkham City. The two games bundled will be remastered for the current gen consoles, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. Batman: Return to Arkham will not be released on the PC.

Warner Bros. used the words,

visually enhanced and recreated for a new generation in Batman: Return to Arkham.

It is worth mentioning Batman: Arkham Origins, which was not developed by Rocksteady, has been omitted from this collection. Origins has always been treated as an outlier by Warner Bros. Even leading up to the release of Batman: Arkham Knight Rockstready didn't seem to even acknowledge it's existence.

Batman: Return to Arkham is set to be released July 26th 2016. It will include all the DLC released for the two games as well as graphical improvements. A trailer has been released, which can be seen below, that shows these improvements.

Rocksteady is not making the remakes. Instead, it is being made by Virtuos who are known for HD remakes, with Final Fantasy X/X 2 HD and the recently released Heavy Rain HD on PlayStation 4 among their many games. Virtuos will be moving the games to Unreal Engine 4 which is what Warner Bros. mean when they say "visually enhanced and recreated" as it is being rebuilt on the new engine.

It was back in 2009 that Batman: Arkham Asylum was first released, it took place in the notorious Arkham Asylum where the Joker had taken over and Batman spent the night trying to stop his mischievous plan. In 2011 its sequel Batman: Arkham City was released, and this time, the game was set in a section of Gotham that had been barricaded up from the rest of the city and turned into a huge prison called Arkham City. Both games were released to critical acclaim and commercial success.

Batman: Return to Arkham will cost £40/$50/€50 and will be released July 26th on the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.

How do you feel about these two games being re-released for the current consoles? Would you've preferred they include Batman: Arkham Origins in the collection? What do you think of the graphical improvements made to the two games shown in the trailer? Let us know in the comments.
