The newly-announced Mount and Blade II: Bannerlord crime system has been announced. As in many of the previous dev blog posts, the crime system has gotten a bit of an upgrade as compared to the previous games in the franchise. This time around, the medieval justice system seems an awful lot like what you see in The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim but with a few interesting improvements.

Here are the basics of the Bannerlord crime system as detailed in the dev blog on Steam: commit a crime, and you'll end up fined or in jail depending on the severity. Minor crimes will require remuneration if you get caught, but you may very well find yourself branded an outlaw and completely banned from entering a nation's territory if you keep it up. Some of the more severe crimes can see you end up in jail—or worse, on the business end of an executioner's ax. The potential for, well, dying, is something that's kind of new to the series. Previously, you'd be jailed for a while at worst until you could eventually escape or otherwise be freed.

That's not the only new addition, though. Devious players will find some wonderful new tools in the Bannerlord crime system. Get popped by a city guard? No problem, pay him a bribe to look the other way! A soldier's pay just isn't what it used to be and more than a few of them are looking to supplement their income. On a budget? Slip on a disguise and try to avoid them entirely! You'll probably have to make use of the new persuasion system in some cases though, so make sure you polish up your social skills!

As always, it is good to be king. If you happen to be the leader of your faction, no problem! Just ignore the guards complaining about you breaking the law. Be careful, though—your lords and subjects won't exactly be fond of a king who's stealing from the people.

The Mount & Blade II: Bannerlord crime system is just one more addition to a game that's already sounding pretty awesome. We'll get the game just as soon as Taleworlds decides it's ready. For now, you can add the game to your wishlist on Steam.
