Twin Mirror Delayed

More bad news for Dontnods next title, Twin Mirror.

It was announced today that the games Japanese release has officially been canceled by publisher Bandai Namco, who cited that the game will not be coming to Japan for "various reasons" in a statement from Bandai Japan.

No official reason has been given, though some speculation points to the difficulty of Western-made productions making an impact in Japan. Dontnod has struggled with that itself, with their major hit Life is Strange only selling roughly 11,500 copies, according to Famitsu, despite being selling over three million copies globally after two years.

Twin Mirror was first revealed at E3 2018 and is described as an episodic, psychological adventure.  The game will star investigative journalist Sam Hayes, who returns to his hometown of Basswood, West Virginia, in order to bury an old friend. Sam wakes up one morning with blood on his shirt and no memory of the previous night’s events, leading the player to search Sam’s memories to discover the truth about Basswood and about Sam’s place in the world.

A few days ago it was announced that Twin Mirror will be delayed until 2020, with Dontnod stating the delay was to "capitalize on Twin Mirror's success potential."

Dontnod has also signed a 12-month exclusivity deal with Epic, meaning PC versions of the game will be timed exclusives for the Epic Game Store, in a move that is described as being "financially advantageous" for the studio. Epic will now be publishing the game on PC, while Bandai Namco holds publishing duties for the console versions of the game.

Twin Mirror is expected to release for the PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. No official release date, other than the 2020 delay, has been given at this time.
