It’s the end of another month and over April a variety of different titles have come to the Xbox One as a part of the backwards compatibility program. This means that these Xbox 360 games are now playable on the Xbox One. If you own any of these 360 games digitally then you can access them via your “Ready to Install” section. If you own the games on disc then you simply put the disc in your Xbox One and download the backwards compatible Xbox 360 title from the marketplace. If it’s physical then you will also need to have the disc in at all times to be able to play.
In Altered Beast you are brought back to life by Zeus and given the missions to rescue his daughter Athena. In this classic game, you side scroll through a variety of levels picking up spirit balls dropped by enemies allowing you to become stronger and even transform into a variety of different animals and creatures to unleash powerful attacks. Altered Beast was originally released back in 1988 as an arcade cabinet.
An adventure game from Double Fine, creators of Psychonauts and Brutal Legend, where you built up a team of three adventures, from a selectable seven. Each of these characters has their own unique stories and personalities. It is up to this group to explore the depths of the cave and a variety of locations within including an amusement park, and even a medieval castle. This game was originally released as an XBLA title in 2013.
In Comix Zone you follow Sketch Turner, an illustrator living in New York City. A bolt of lightening hits Sketch’s drawing bringing Mortus, an evil mutant who has aspirations of becoming real, to life. Using magic Mortus drags you into the world of the comic where you suddenly become a “one-man mercenary platoon.” Using your new powers you’re able to take the fight to Mortus and try to return the world to normal. This game was originally released back in 2009.
Following in the series of beat ’em up styled games Double Dragon: Neon is a reboot of the original. Billy and Jimmy are back to save the women that they love from the evil Skullmageddon. This game consists of 10 levels with missions, enemies, and plenty of battles. Since the original release as well as being able to punch, kick, and jump there is also now an evading mechanic that can help you avoid attacks and even deal out more damage if you time it right.
A game that needs no real introduction Frogger is now playable on the Xbox One. This full game has the same retro feel of the original Frogger title with Versus Speed, Co-op, and Versus Head-to-Head multiplayer so you’re able to play with a friend.
For the 30th anniversary of the original Galaga this remake, created by the same team behind Pac-Man Championship Edition DX, give a new spin to the classic arcade title. In this bullet hell you get to take on seemingly countless enemies as you try to get through the variety of different modes for the ultimate high score.
Ghosts are swarming all over New York and it’s up to the rookie Ghostbusters and their proton packs to take down the threats. In Sanctum of Slime you get to select one of four new playable Ghostbusters to take out in the ECTO-4WD and take on the ghosts where they live. This game is a twin stick shooter that you can play on your own or with up to three of your friends either through local or online co-op.
Rayman is back in this wonderfully illustrated reboot. Ubisoft, after taking Rayman out to play with the Rabbids has returned him to his 2D platforming roots. As the Glade of Dreams is overrun by Darktoons it’s up to Rayman and his friends to save the world from this nightmare. With 100 characters, 12 unique worlds and over 60 levels there is plenty of fun to be had. Not just fun alone either as you can play any of these stages with hop-in co-op allowing anyone to join and leave as they want.
