You'll be able to get Axiom Verge free as the next offering on the Epic Games Store in just a few short days. This title will be the next in a series of free games that will be handed out over the course of a year.

The Epic Games Store is new on the block and they want to get people on their platform. They decided to kick things off by giving away a different game every two weeks for the store's first year beginning with Subnautica. The current game on offer is The Jackbox Party Pack and you'll soon be able to grab Axiom Verge free starting on February 7, 2019.

Axiom Verge is a retro platformer that's delightfully strange in oh so many ways. Take a look at the PlayStation 4 trailer to get a feel for the game:

In short, Axiom Verge is a Metroidvania with all of the trimmings. A scientist awakens after a lab accident without much of an idea as to what the heck is going on. You'll have to explore the world gathering new equipment and fighting dangerous enemies in order to figure out your role in this whole mess. Adding to the fun is the ability to "glitch" the world in various ways such as by phasing through walls. Is this real life, or is this just fantasy? You can't say for sure until you've uncovered the mysteries of Axiom Verge.

What makes this game even more insane is the fact that it was essentially put together as a one-man operation. A single man creating a platformer isn't anything new these days, but it's certainly rare to see something of this level of quality made by such a relatively small team.

You'll be able to get Axiom Verge free on the Epic Games Store for two weeks starting on February 7, 2019. In the meantime, don’t forget to snag your free copy of The Jackbox Party Pack on the Epic Games Store.
