Atlus is opening an online merchandise store on Monday, October 16, 2017, according to a news post on the company’s official website.
For those unfamiliar with the company, Atlus is a Japanese-based video game developer and publisher who is perhaps best known for the Shin Megami Tensei series and especially the spinoff Persona series of games. Five years after their founding, American division Atlus USA was opened in order to localize their games for the Western market. Aside from working on their own titles, the US division had occasionally localized other games such as Nippon Ichi’s Disgaea.
Mike Quijano of the Atlus Licensing Team has laid out all of the details about this upcoming project. The Atlus Online Store is coming to fruition after feedback from the company’s experiences at Anime Expo 2017 – people wanted to be able to buy physical merchandise related to Atlus and their games but were unable to do so if they couldn’t make it to a convention or event where the company had a physical shop set up. As a result, the company has elected to open an online store which will eventually become the home of any physical merchandise they produce (save for that which may be exclusive to certain events).
Things are going to start off slowly – the store’s initial incarnation will operate on a pre-order model. Shipments from this first wave of pre-orders will be sent out in late November and early December, just in time for Christmas and other winter holidays. This is largely a practicality issue on their part as the first run of merch is still being produced. If you happen to miss out on some merchandise, it will be back at a future date.
The Atlus Online Store will initially be open to North America only. While Mr. Quijano acknowledges the worldwide fanbase of the company and their games, they do not want to expand too rapidly without establishing a solid foundation for the store. If you’d like to get your hands on some Persona merch for someone in your life for Christmas, the store will open on Monday, October 16, 2017, at 8:00 AM Pacific Daylight Time.
