Astroneer is a sci-fi sandbox developed & published by System Era Softworks. Sometime in the near future, space travel is a little bit more ubiquitous than today. This prompts an interstellar gold rush of sorts, encouraging brave explorers to head out into the stars in search of the vast mineral wealth on other worlds.

Players will make hefty use of their terrain tool, a powerful device that can disintegrate matter at range. You can use this tool to dig into the soil or collect any of the numerous different materials laying around. Crafting and equipping a canister will allow you to store soil and manipulate the land further, increasing the volume of the world geometry or leveling it out so you can easily traverse any natural obstacles that might be in your way.

Astroneer begins with you landing on a planet with your terrain tool and a Habitat that serves as the central point of your base as well as an unlimited supply of oxygen. You can collect some basic resources and do some early research through a short tutorial to unlock tethers, an incredibly important piece of equipment that allows you to push out further from your base and keep your oxygen topped up. As you work your way through the game, you'll find mysterious artifacts that can be researched and used to unlock a greater variety of equipment such as trade platforms, rovers, and starships.

The worlds in Astroneer are finite spheres - it's possible to make a trip around the world or set up at one of the planet's poles for a greater (or lesser) amount of sunlight to meet your ever-growing power needs. You can go it alone in Astroneer or you can bring along some friends with its drop-in, drop-out multiplayer. Whether you're by yourself or with your friends, Astroneer gives you the chance to head out into the great frontier and exploit your own little corner of the galaxy for mineral riches.
