If you've been looking for a different kind of Assassin's Creed game, you may have heard of a little spin-off called Assassin's Creed Chronicles. The first game in the series - Assassin's Creed Chronicles: China - saw players don the all too familiar robes of an assassin in a side-scrolling stealth adventure. And there's more on the way!
In a blog post on the official Ubisoft blog, Ubisoft employee Anne Lewis announced that two new installments will be coming to the current-gen consoles and the PC. The series will also be getting a release as a bundle on Sony's Playstation Vita handheld. This comes after the announcement earlier today that the two final chapters of the series would be delayed until early 2016.
Assassin's Creed Chronicles: India will center around Arbaaz Mir (whom some may remember from the Assassin's Creed: Brahman book), an assassin who finds himself in the middle of a conflict between the Sikh Empire and the East India Company while trying to find an item stolen from the assassins by the Templar order.
The final installment in the series will have players take control of another character from the books. This time, you'll be playing Nikolai Orelov, a retiring assassin in 20th century Russia who is tasked with obtaining an ancient artifact.
The blog notes that, even though the games are all set in different times in history, the game does have a narrative tie between all the episodes. If you want to know more about the games, you can check out a pretty comprehensive blog post here.
The 2 episodes will be released on consoles and PC on February 9, and will cost you $9.99 per episode. The Vita bundle release will be on April 5, and the price of the bundle on all platforms will be $29.99.
Quick Take
Even though I wasn't thoroughly enamored by the franchise's take on 2D stealth, I do appreciate that they took the familiar Assassin's Creed concept and applied it to a different genre. The games' art style is looking rather nice as well. Strange that the bundle costs nearly as much as all episodes individually (you'll actually be paying 2 cents more for the bundle than you would if you bought the episodes individually). Usually you get a bit of a discount when you buy a bundle.
