Video game publisher Rising Star Games, makers of games like Deadly Premonition and Lumo, has announced today that they will be partnering with Stormcloud Games to bring their "popular and critically acclaimed" roguelite ASCII dungeon crawler, Brut@l, to PC. The game is said to "fuse oldschool gaming with a stunning 3D visual style."

Players will able to choose between four classes, Ranger, Mage, Warrior and Amazon. The world of Brut@l is a procedurally-generated land of ASCII and players have one goal: to get to the 26th floor, kill the Guardian of the Dungeon and take his crown. Players can craft and enchant weapons, brew and drink potions, and level up their hero based on the play style that suits them. You will be battling a variety of monsters on your adventure including Trolls, Orcs, Rockmonsters, Lycanthropes, and many more.

The game also has a local co-op mode, in which players can be joined by friends in battling through the 26 floors of the dungeon and "evoke the nostalgia of all-night gaming sessions from years past." The game also features a Dungeon Creator, a map builder that lets you builds, share, and play your own dungeon.

The console version of the game has been released earlier this month and was received good reviews from critics with our very own Samuel Guglielmo giving a 7 out 10 and complimented it by saying "The striking art style proved to be an excellent way to get me involved in a game that I probably wouldn’t usually look at."

While Dungeon Crawlers aren't among the most popular trends according to Google Trends, with Dark Souls III being the most popular related search, they have still held a fairly steady level of popularity over the past few years. I'm sure there are still plenty of retro dungeon crawler fans out there that will be more than pleased by the launch of this game. On the nostalgia front, it also evokes images of older, classic, roguelike games such as Rogue, NetHack, and ADOM.

Brut@l is scheduled to release on PC in 2017.
