ARMS Nintendo Switch Gameplay

Nintendo has shown off more of ARMS for the Nintendo Switch, revealing some of the quirky characters and in-game customization in two new trailers, posted on Nintendo official Japanese YouTube channel.

The first trailer spotlights five fighters for the game, each with unique special abilities. The five characters shown off include the two titular characters from the Nintendo Switch presentation, Spring Man and Ribbon Girl. Three others, Master Mummy, Ninjara, and Mechanica are also getting highlighted. Each of the fighters also have special abilities to provide a unique flavor to each character; Master Mummy, for example, is slow but powerful, and when he blocks he can activate an ability that heals him over time, or Ninjara when blocking can teleport before being hit, and uses his mobility and reach to hit and run opponents on the field.

The second trailer doesn't reveal new fighters, but it does reveal customization options for ARMS. Each fighter can switch in and out their ARM attachments to provide them new abilities in combat. The boomerang arms, for example, can fly on an arc and hit opponents behind objects. The stun gun arms can shock opponents, which leaves them open for being grappled and thrown around when activated.  It appears that each fighter can mix and match their attachments as they see fit, leading to interesting combinations for the player to experience.

ARMS was first revealed at the Nintendo Switch Press Event last month, as one of the two titles that will be Joycon enabled by Nintendo. Joycon games will feature the controller's accelerometers and HD rumble features; which Nintendo showed off in their reveal package at the event. ARMS has not been given an official release date yet, but it is slated for a Spring 2017 release.
